Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take a rescue dog to adjust to a new home?

Dogs can learn quickly in a new environment.  You will both need time to learn about each other.  Your dog will need help to learn the rules.  When a dog is well socialized, it can take two weeks to two months for them to settle in.  The way they behave at first will be different from how they will behave once they are adjusted.

What is the adoption process like?

There are a bunch of questions that you’ll need to answer.  We obviously would like to place the dog in a home where the fit is right for both of you.  There will be a home inspection with the dog and we will see how the dog reacts to you and your home.   There may also be multiple applications for the same dog.  Adoption is not based on first come first serve.  We make a judgement on where the dog would be best suited.

Do dogs like routine?

YES.  Routines help a dog adjust and learn what to expect.  It is calming for them.  The minute their routine is changed means they are learning something new.

Where do your dogs come from?

Some of our dogs are abanndoned and taken into foster homes.  Then they are transported to northern rescues.

How old do I need to be to adopt a dog?

Adopters need to be 18 years old with a valid ID.  Fosters need to be 21 years old.
